Aerators, Dethatchers, Sod Cutters
There are several theories on lawn maintenance apart from naturally water and fertilizer. They involve different types of machines.
Aerators, (or Corers), Scarifiers and Dethatchers.
An Aerator or Corer is used to punch holes in the ground to lessen compaction and assist in air, water and nutrients entering the soil. The only really efficient machines are those powered by a petrol engine. Tow-behind units, reliant on weight to thrust their spikes into the ground do not offer anywhere near the same result, and are virtually a waste of time and effort.
Dethatchers and Scarifiers are very similar in their design and theory of lawn maintenance and renovation. They can be purchased with different types of cutting equipment and some with catcher options. They can be used to barely cut into the grass, to lessen thatching, or cut up to 25mm into the soil, to provide an aeration similar to an Aerator or Corer.
